Many people wonder, why go to fitness classes rather than just going to the gym on their own for cheaper? For someone who goes to the gym regularly, it’s an easy decision but not everyone knows how to workout. Here at Neil Bowman Training, we will explain the benefits of fitness classes and how it can benefit your quality of life (QOL).
Benefits – Social Aspect
Studies have shown, participation in fitness classes decreases stress and increases physical, mental, and emotional QOL compared with solo exercising. Attending weekly group fitness classes can be a solution to improving the emotional well-being and stress level. There’s a couple of reasons as to how it works, the first being group cohesion. For simplicities’ sake is where a group unites in the pursuit of its objectives. It was found that increased cohesion plays a significant role in exercise participation. The second being social support from family, spouses, and friends. Taking up and adhering to exercise correlates with social support.
Benefits – Commitment
The idea that you must book into a class itself increases the commitment/participation rates. It’s harder for you not to participate when monetary value is attached to something. There’s also the other people in the class that you regularly workout with and may have gotten to know. The idea that you’re letting down the collective group helps motivate you to participate. Classes may have been planned with your participation in mind, your lack of attendance may affect the overall flow of the class.
Benefits – Learn how to work out efficiently
We’ve seen this time and again, someone joins a gym but they’ve never really been to one before. There are people and complex machines everywhere, they immediately feel self-conscious and don’t know where to start. They try out a machine but don’t know how it works and give up after a minute due to embarrassment. So they try some weight lifting with dumbbells because they’re not a machine and they’ve seen people use them before. They end up with weights that are too heavy or too light and copying exercises they see others doing. Nobody wants to be in this situation and with a class you never have to. With a class environment, everyone is doing the same things and you have an instructor helping you along the way. Instructors help you learn how to exercise and why you do those exercises. All without needing to plan your own workout.
These are just 3 of the many reasons to attend fitness classes over attending a regular gym. Find out more benefits of fitness classes by booking a class with Neil Bowman Training.
